The Spanish Tax Authority is now taking unpaid taxes direct from bank accounts.  In 2011 they started with some Warning Letters, The tax authorities sent 300.000 letters to non resident property owners, informing them that there is no record of them paying their Non Resident taxes.In 2012 – It turns into a Final Tax Demand.  It is now being sent out and all Tax bills from 2006 onwards will include some hefty fines. One bill per person, per property, per year, to Spanish holiday home addresses and with limited time to respond.

In 2013 – The Consequences if you ignore your tax obligations or these letters, your bank account will be frozen until your tax debt is cleared.  They Spanish authorities are desperate for money and are going to all extremes to get this money from all possible points.  From fines on properties to the police giving out more traffic fines than before, or in particular around the Christmas time.

Remember: Non Resident Tax is not optional

SOLUTION

If you have a tax representative – make sure that you are up to date with your Non Resident tax obligations.   Don’t wait to receive the letter you must make a start by presenting this years declaration on time before the 31st of December deadline.
